You spent a whole year stomping and roaring at the door. Our house became Jurassic Park, and you were the dinosaur. You hunted everyone down with the teeth of a T-Rex. Your sisters would run and hide, knowing they were going to be next. You’d pretend to lay an egg, keep it warm but not too hot. Then turn into a carnivore and eat it right there on the spot. But it didn’t last long, you were only prehistoric for a while. Eventually you got bigger and decided to change your style. Now you have the sharpest claws and a crazy, wicked grin. I don’t know what to call you except my creepy blue friend. But you’re more to me than that; You always bring me joy. Doesn’t matter what the monster is, You’ll always be my little boy.

Everywhere that you go, happiness always chases. When you try to run, you need help with your shoelaces. At the park you reach the swings and say, “Daddy, push me!” And I always give in, because you’re sweet and so squishy. You start off swinging low, then make me push you high. Now the birds want to know If you’re really trying to fly. They ask what’s so funny because we’re laughing way too much, but it’s our little secret, the kind no one else can touch. One day you will stop running and playing on the swings. The birds will no longer follow or wonder about your wings. I’ll be at the park all alone with nobody else to chase. Some other kid will be on the swing, sitting in your place. But no matter where you go, or who you grow up to be, I will always cherish the moments I had on the swings with Dezy.
